The Brenham Children's Chorus, Singenspiel, and Brenham Broadway Kids

    Brenham Children's Chorus membership is for singers who will be in grades 4 - 8 in August 2008 (internship for returning 9th graders). BCC rehearsals are on Mondays from 3:45 - 5:30 pm at the Community Ed Building. Membership in Singenspiel is for young singers who will be in 2nd and 3rd grade in August 2008. Singenspiel rehearsals are on Mondays from 4:00 - 5:00 pm at the Community Ed Building. Transportation from BISD campuses is provided.

    No child is denied membership in either chorus due to a lack of economic resources. Tuition scholarships are available. For information or to make an audition appointment for your child, please contact the Chorus office at 979-277-6540. The audition takes about 10 minutes and no prior singing experience is necessary.
 

Requirements for performing members

    The Brenham Children’s Chorus exists primarily to teach children to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance.  An equally important aspect of the Chorus is the nurturing and growth of discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and self-confidence.  We expect this to be and will strive to make this one of the finest children’s programs that will benefit each child for the remainder of his or her life.

    Membership in the Chorus is open to boys and girls who will be in 4th – 8th grade in August 2008.  Membership in Singenspiel is open to boys and girls in 2nd and 3rd grade in August 2008. Children from all economic and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition.  Prior singing experience is not required.

Membership Qualifications
• Sing with a clear tone to blend well with others.
• Sing in tune with an unchanged voice.
• Demonstrate a good sense of rhythm.
• Self-disciplined and attentive behavior.
• Positive attitude.
• Commit to a one-year membership.
 

    Rules of conduct, dress, attendance, tardiness, lost music, and chorus property are established.  A copy of these rules and guidelines will be given to each selected member.  Each member is expected to respect others and the property of the chorus.  Attendance at special rehearsals for special concerts and programs is essential.  Each person who becomes a member of the chorus is expected to respect the effort necessary to become an exemplary performing arts chorus.

    A unique part of the Chorus is the Brenham Broadway Kids, which just celebrated the completion of three years of performance.  The BBK consists of a select group of choristers who are chosen after proving unique dedication and talent in BCC, a special audition, and by agreeing to commit to an additional weekly rehearsal on Tuesday afternoons, plus additional rehearsals and performance commitments which will be presented to potential Brenham Broadway Kids and their parents upon audition.  BBK presents a major musical production each year and is often called upon to represent the chorus in smaller venues.

    Annual tuition fees for performing members of the Brenham Children's Chorus are $295.00 which includes a non-refundable audition fee of $25.00.
 

...for members of Singenspiel

    An annual tuition fee for performing members of Singenspiel is $245.00 which includes a non-refundable audition fee of $25.00.
 

    The Chorus will provide the wardrobe to be worn by each performing member, with the exception of shoes, black and white; belts (brown and black); and socks (all white and black) which must be supplied by the chorister.

    Scholarships based solely on need are also available.  These applications are available at the Chorus office.

    Scholarships will be available upon application for children who need financial assistance in order to participate in the Chorus.  It is our desire that no child will be left out of this opportunity because of financial reasons.  These scholarships will be based on need after the Scholarship committee has reviewed the application and supporting information.  Scholarship applications forms are available at the Chorus office.
