Pam Bennett Young
is the founding Artistic Director of the Brenham Children's Chorus
and has many years of experience in vocal music as a performer,
voice teacher and choral director. A graduate of the Baylor University
School of Music, she has performed in a variety of venues from
musical theatre at Stages in Houston and Unity Theatre in Brenham to
classical halls in South America and commercial recording studios in
the United States. Among her favorite productions are the many years
of "Pageant: A Christmas Spectacular" in which she performed.
The high school choirs under her direction received sweepstakes
ratings each year and she is the founding director of elementary
chorus programs in several public school districts. She has taught
music for more than twenty-five years in such diverse locations as
the fourth ward in Houston to the island of Java in Indonesia. Pam
loves to sing and loves combining the unique timbres of individual
voices to create one glorious, soul-unifying work of art which will
never be repeated exactly the same way again.
Pam currently teaches music at Krause
Elementary School where she has taught for 10 years. Having taught
since the school year 1979-80, Pam previously taught music in
Hempstead ISD, Huffman ISD, Houston ISD and Beeville ISD. She enjoys
teaching children the joys of making music and especially delights
in making music at home with her three boys (husband, Bob, and sons,
Dee and Gavin).
Martha Haydon
received her B.S. from Southwest Texas State University in
Elementary Education with Specialization in Music. She has
accompanied and performed with a variety of musical groups including
church choirs in Galveston, the Galveston College Choir, the
Galveston Opera Workshop, Unity Theatre of Brenham, and the Brenham
High School drama department musicals, the most recent musical being
Cinderella last January. One of the highlights of her music career
is a trip to Russia in July, 1997, with the Houston Children's
Chorus directed by Steve Roddy. She is currently working with the
high school drama department on the musical "Hello, Dolly!"
and Brenham's First Baptist Church Christmas Musical, "A Midnight
Clear." She has served as pianist at Brenham's First Baptist
Church for twenty-six years and is currently serving as interim
music director. Her favorite duet partner is her husband of 34
years, Dr. Robert Haydon.
Amy Bentke, a
native of Brenham, has been dancing since she was three years old
and has been teaching dance and gymnastics since the age of 13. She
has choreographed Brenham High School musicals, Maifest
Coronations, and church and school programs. She has been co-owner of
Aspirations Gymnastics and Dance Studio for 16 years.
Karen Chance,
is the Director of Singenspiel, the newly formed choir for 2nd and
3rd graders. Retiring from teaching with 22 years of experience,
Karen received her Bachelor of Arts Music Degree from Dakota
Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, and earned her
Masters Degree in Elementary Education at East Texas State
University in Texarkana, Texas. In the past, Karen has taught Music,
Fine Arts, and Choir in grades K-12 in Deer Park, Galena Park, East
Chambers County, and Pleasant Grove in Texas. She also taught in
Pipestone, Minnesota. In addition to her teaching, she has taught
piano, directed church choirs, played the organ, and directed hand
bell choirs. Currently, she directs the hand bell choir and plays
the organ at the 1st United Methodist Church in Brenham.
Jennifer Patrick,
designed costumes at Unity
Theatre for Cyrano, The Christmas Schooner, T he Heiress, The Odd
Couple, Sander's Family Christmas and Scotland Road. She is an
Assistant Lecturer at Texas A&M teaching Theatre History and Intro
to Theatre. She has designed professionally and academically in
Texas, Georgia, No. Carolina, Virginia and New Hampshire. She thanks
her partner in life and theatre - Kevin Patrick, Technical Director
of Blinn Theatre. She also had the best scene painters in the world,
her twin daughters, Mollie & Rylie!
Amy Schramm
is a Brenham native who
graduated from Brenham HS and earned a AA degree at Blinn. In
addition to singing in church and college choirs since age 10, she
has been playing piano fo 23 years. Amy has played for several
Brenham HS and Blinn musicals and also performed in three Unity
Theatre productions. She helped the Brenham Children's Chorus with
its first summer camp and is extremely pleased to have the chance to
work with these talented young people on a regular basis.
Julie Steen
is a Houston Baptist University graduate with majors in Art,
Physical Education and Psychology. She has over 21 years of
teaching experience with all ages in private and public school in a
variety of subjects: Art, P.E. including coaching, Bible, Yearbook,
Library, and Music. Ms. Steen has a variety of musical performance
experiences. While attending HBU, she was a member of FOCUS, the
school's traveling musical ministry team. She spent two years
touring with the North American Baptist Conference's musical
ministry team, New Day, throughout the U.S. and Canada. She worked
with ensembles at Houston's First Baptist Church. She has directed
children's ensembles and productions at various churches and worked
as music coordinator and leader at summer camps and Bible schools.
She is the assistant principal and coordinates the praise music at
Greenvine Baptist Church in Burton, and she assisted in the
rehearsals of the Brenham Honor Chorus that was in a joint concert
in April with the Houston Children's Chorus.
Joyce Whitehead
is the Assistant
Director of Singenspiel, attended Blinn College and sang in the
Blinn College Chorus and played in the Blinn Band. She graduated
from Blinn College and received an Associate of Arts Degree. Joyce
attended Sam Houston State University where she received her
Bachelor of Arts in Teaching Degree and her Master's of Education
Degree. When her own children were in the Bellville High School
band, she went as a sponsor on a trip to Vienna, Austria where the
band performed at the International Music Festival. Joyce Whitehead
currently serves as the assistant director of Singenspiel. She has
been singing with the Austin County Civic Chorale for 14 years and
with the Brenham Chorale for 5 years. She is a member of Delta Kappa
Gamma and a second grade teacher at Krause Elementary School.
