A
NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
♫♫ |
|
Hi
Fellow Young Musicians,
Happy New Year, Brenham Children's Chorus! I hope you
had a fantastic holiday and that you heard lots of nice
things about your Christmas concert. I was so proud of
all of you on December 15. You really pulled off an
entertaining and impressive concert of many different
kinds of music that made our audience feel ready for
Christmas. Singenspiel did a marvelous job and I
cannot tell you what a difference it made for our
4th-8th graders to have just a short time to leave the
stage. They are so used to having to stand for an hour
at a time and have always been troopers about it, but to
be able to actually sit down and listen to the sweet
sounds of Singenspiel gave them the energy to do
every song 100%. So it's final: Singenspiel is
everything we hoped it would be and more. These young
singers are learning how to be excellent choir members.
Thanks, Karen and Joyce! Now, onward to the next
things:
Big, important retreat coming up. Don't
miss it.
Great new music to do. Love it.
Seussical Jr. work going on. Can't
wait.
Festival Hill around the corner. Big
fifth anniversary.
So much to enjoy. Lucky us.
Things look great for 2008,
Pam Bennett Young |

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! |
|
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped the
Christmas Concert and rehearsal go so very well! Special
thanks to all the parents who helped with uniforms,
chaperoning, selling tickets, ushering, serving lunch,
and providing props. We appreciate our parents! We
deeply appreciate you giving of your time, your energy,
and your support. We could not have done it without
you. Thank you, thank you, one and all.

Please pick up your chorister from rehearsal on time and
ask for memos
* *
Please make sure you pick up your chorister on time --
our chaperones and staff have commitments and families
they need to get home to. Remember, Monday rehearsals
for BCC end at 5:30 and “Singenspiel” rehearsals end at
5:00 Please be there to pick up your chorister on time.
To facilitate smooth pick-up, please stay in the carline
and follow the map directions that were dispensed in
August. A chaperone will escort your child to your
car. Thank you for assisting us in this process!
NOTE
TO SINGENSPIEL PARENTS: Please pick your child up at
5:00 PM after rehearsal. We realize it might be
inconvenient if you have to wait for another child who
is singing with BCC, but letting these young singers
roam the halls of the Community Ed Building unsupervised
is not safe. Thank you for your help. |

A NOTE
FROM SINGENSPIEL DIRECTOR |
|
Dear Singenspiel kids
and parents
Happy New Year! I
hope you had a wonderful, restful and meaningful holiday
season. We had our 2 grandsons, age 4 and 2, visit us. I
can't call our time together "restful," but it certainly
was fun and entertaining.
I was so happy to
see everyone at our first January rehearsal. They all
told me about their favorite Christmas gift! We'll have
some time to really concentrate on learning more about
music in the next couple months. We're learning about
not values and note names and will continue to use bells
and handchimes to enhance our lessons. And of course,
we like to play music games such as "Scat Cat" and "Lucy
Locket!"
I hope your child
will share with you some of the things he or she has
learned. If not, please ask! You may be surprised!

NOTE:
The risk of thanking everyone is that someone’s name
will be deleted. Please know that this omission is not
intentional. We are so fortunate to have so many parents
helping – sometimes, a name gets missed (but not the
person). Please let us know of anyone who might have
been missed. We appreciate all of you – spoken and
unspoken. Thank you one and all! |
|
Thank
You! |
|
Special
thanks to Mark Wiesepape for being such a believable
Santa! And, thank you to Jeff Appel and Bob Young for
helping with the sound system at the concert! Great job! |
|
Please keep the office informed about your change of address, phone
number, or email. |
|
What to do with those Formal Uniforms? |
|
Each chorister was issued a formal uniform or black
slacks (Singenspiel) for the Christmas concert. Please
keep these uniform items until we have asked for their
return. If any pieces of the uniform did not fit
properly, please contact the chorus office as soon as
possible. The choristers will be wearing these uniforms
at the Festival Hill Concert on April 27. Thank you!

MEMOS |
|
At
the risk of sounding repetitious or annoying, please
remember to ask your chorister for notes or memos after
each and every rehearsal. We still have parents who are
not receiving necessary information from their
chorister. At the end of rehearsal and a busy day of
school, it is hard for them to remember to voluntarily
give you memos from the chorus. Their minds are filled
with after school activities, sports, homework, and
music. Please ask them for these memos and we’ll all be
on the same page. Thank you!

COMMITTEE NEWS |
|
If
you signed up for a committee and have not been called
to help – or – if you would like to volunteer for a
particular committee, please contact the chorus office,
979-277-6540. We have so many willing parents and we
have so many areas that parents can help the chorus,
during concert time and throughout the entire music
season. We want to give everyone an opportunity to be
involved in the chorus and in their child’s life.
|
|
The
Chorus website and scrapbook are always looking for
pictures or articles about the Chorus or its activities
or concerts (especially “Cinderella Kids”). If you have
any of these, please get them to the Chorus office or
email them to
bccinfo@brenhamchildrenschorus.org |

RETREAT INFORMATION |
|
The annual spring retreat for members of the chorus will
be on Friday, February 22-Saturday, February 23 at
Cathedral Oaks Retreat Center in Weimer, Texas. After
school on Friday, choristers will gather and ride the
bus as a group to the retreat. Parent chaperones and
cooks will be needed. If you are interested in attending
this retreat, please make sure you have turned your
Criminal Background Check information into the chorus
office.
This retreat is mandatory for all choristers in BCC. In
addition to providing a fun, bonding time for these
young singers, the retreat is an important time for
rehearsal and preparation for the concert at Festival
Hill. Note: Sorry, this retreat does not include members
of “Singenspiel”. |

CHAPERONE – SECURITY UPDATE
 |
|
If
someone else is picking up your child after rehearsal,
please remember to send a written note. Your child
cannot be released to another adult without your written
permission or a call to the office staff. Thank you for
helping us keep our children safe. |
|
REHEARSAL ABSENCES
If your
child is going to be absent from rehearsal, please call
or e-mail the chorus office:
chris@brenhamchildrenschorus.org -or-
rosellyn@brenhamchildrenschorus.org. Please do not
contact the artistic staff. The office will notify the
artistic staff of chorister absences. Regular rehearsal
attendance enables your singer to be confident and
secure when performing on stage. As noted in your
Parent Handbook, more than 2 unexcused rehearsal
absences per semester may result in dismissal from the
choir. |
|
Thank
you!
Thank
you to the ROTC Cadets who so willingly participated in
the Christmas Concert: Margarita Camacho, Petra
Hernandez, and Brad Schramm. We appreciate you! Well
Done! |
|
NOTE: All choristers should bring their music folders
to every rehearsal -- this includes members of
Singenspiel. Children in BCC and Singenspiel
will be assessed $1.00 each time they forget to bring
their music folder. Please make sure your child has
his/her music each rehearsal day. |

REACHING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY |
|
|
On December 18, members
of the core cast of “Cinderella Kids” performed at the
Brenham State School. The residents and staff of the
State School enjoyed the production so much. It was
truly a time of giving and sharing during the holiday
season. Special thanks to all the choristers and parents
who helped make this happen. The holiday time is so busy
and often filled with frantic activities. We appreciate
the fact that you were all so willing to give of your
time to share your musical gifts with others. Truly the
spirit of giving! Thank you so much. |
