Wednesday, July 20 - Wednesday, we spent the morning at St. Paul's Cathedral with the Fond du Lac Choir kids. We played musical games designed to get us better acquainted, got to know each other better and even did some folk dances (ask a chorister or chaperone about the dance where they wound up their nose). We learned the history of the church, found out how the church organ worked and listened to a brief organ and harpsichord demonstration by the principal organist for the Cathedral. Even some of the chorus members played the harpsichord.

After we finished at the Cathedral we went to a park on Lake Winnebago and enjoyed a picnic lunch provided by the Wisconsin Choristers and their parents. We played games and walked along the lake front. As we walked along the lake the Chorus saw an elderly couple sitting on a bench enjoying the beauty of the park and view of the lake. The Chorus sang to the delight of this couple. Someone heard a bagpipe. This was mentioned to Pam Young, our Artistic Director who loves the sound of that instrument. So we immediately started toward the sound where we met Kevin, a High School Junior, who was practicing his bagpipe on the lake shore. He played several songs for us and explained how the bagpipe worked. The Chorus then joined in the singing of "Amazing Grace" accompanied by Kevin and his bagpipe.

Afterward we did some picture taking around the band stand and lighthouse in the park. We completed our afternoon with a ride on a small train that runs thru the park.

Wednesday night after dinner we attended the Buttermilk Park Concert featuring the New Century Dance Orchestra. We sat on the grass (that's right no fear of fire ants) and enjoyed music from the '20's and '30's. We were introduced by the Director of the band and our concert was mentioned. At the end the whole crowd stood and sang "God Bless America". What fun! The traveling group then went to a nearby drive-inn where we sat outside and enjoyed frozen custard (nothing is as good as Blue Bell), but it was a great way to end another great day.
